Famous Indian Noodle Of Bangkok Lane, Penang

Finding a parking spot near this stall can be quite a challenge, especially when it is a weekend. Due to its reputation of offering some of the best Indian noodles in Penang, I found a couple of tourist clicking away with their phones. Some even took selfies with the stall owner. So much for their reputation, time to put it to the test.

The mee goreng contains the prerequisite of a high quality noodle . The noodles are springy, not too dry with just the right moisture to wet your tongue. Bangkok Lane's fried Indian noodle avoids the pit fall that most mamak restaurants fall into. I appreciated the token of leafy vegetables that are added into the noodle, giving it a relatively fresh taste.

Fairly balanced, the Indian noodle was not too spicy nor salty. I find it hard to find a flaw in this meal to comment about. Lets head over to the mee rebus.

Just like the mee goreng, the mee rebus is out of this world. The yellow gravy that makes up the noodle is sweet and spicy in a really nice way. My tongue could not detect any artificial flavoring that most vendors use to cheat their way through my tasting examination.

The brown colored chunks inside the mee rebus are composed of cuttlefish parts. Juicy and flavorful, the cuttlefish flesh yield easily to the teeth. This has something to do with the freshness of the cuttlefish as well as the cooking technique. Marks are deducted as the bones of the cuttlefish had not been removed, inhibiting the smooth flow of my culinary experience. I do not like picking off bones or spitting out hard refuse.

For the price, I am astonished at the amount of ingredients they added into the noodle. A wonderful combination of sliced egg, potatoes and tofu is added into the gravy, giving it a creamier and fuller taste.

I told the cook to reduce the amount of chili in my mee rebus. Apparently less is still too much for me to bear as the gravy was still a violent shade of red. For those who are not keen to stomach spicy food, the famous Indian noodle of Bangkok Lane might not be your cup of coffee.

Hussain's Nasi Kandar also shares the same roof as the Bangkok Lane mee goreng, but it has been completely eclipsed by the latter. I did not try out their Indian economy rice but the variety on display seems interesting.

An assortment of meat floating in a sea of red. I am not a chili enthusiast. Hence, I will give them a wide berth.

The judges have been satisfied and now we are ready to give the verdict.
